About Dr. Yakov Simkhayev

Determination Physical Therapy was founded by Dr. Yakov Simkhayev, PT, DPT. Dr. Simkhayev graduated from Touro College with a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy in 2005. Yakov’s Pre-Doctorate studies were completed at Hunter College of the City University of New York. Prior to starting Determination Physical Therapy, Dr. Simkhayev has worked within the Long Island Jewish Health System at Franklin Hospital where he specialized in: acute, sub-acute and post-op patients. He has extensive experience in treating patients with diagnosis of CVA (commonly known as stroke), Multiple Sclerosis, and total knee and hip replacements. Dr. Simkhayev’s clinical experience also extends to working in an outpatient setting with a focus on orthopedic and geriatric population. As a physical therapist, Dr. Simkhayev's experience is in treating numerous orthopedic and sports related injuries with an emphasis on using various manual therapy techniques. Dr. Simkhayev utilizes clinical reasoning and the most current cutting-edge evidence based research to identify a specific diagnosis and prescribe individualized treatment and therapeutic exercise. His studies in self learning/improvement, clinical education, professional endeavors, wellness and prevention are important to the goal of an improved condition.
